A sheriff's dept in NC discovered 2 1928 Tommy guns in it's vault, worth about $30k each. They'd been properly registered so they could be sold to collectors. The sheriff said they aren't in the antique gun business and couldn't use them so he traded them to a dealer for 88 New Bushmaster rifles.

'68 Amnesty guns according to the article. I guess that explains why the number of amenesty registered pre-86 guns keeps going up every year. I wonder how many old PDs still have ancient Title II MGs sitting in their vaults? Even worse, I wonder how many were never registered and have to go on a new Form 5..lost forever to the collector world. There must be some pressure from the PDs who find these to allow someone at ATF to " find" old paperwork so their $800 post-86 Thompson becomes a $20,000 pre-86 Thompson.

There's something about a Thompson that just makes me want one bad. My old bus driver from elementary school was a WWII vet who used to regale us with stories of shooting his Thompson and various other stories that would probably get a bus driver fired today. He was a little guy and he said that when he would fire it, he would put his hand on top of the rifle to keep it from recoiling completely off target.
