Is this good for Deck project? Normal ground level deck. Maximum wood cutting would be 4X4 and 2X8

Unless you're ripping the boards lengthways... not really. You want something called a "circular saw" instead, which can be had for much cheaper (guessing here, but like $75 new). And of course there's always Kijiji for used ones!

I'm on the fence. I was thinking about the Ridgid that goes onsale for $399 but this is quite a bit cheaper.

Picked up this model the last time 50% off was offered for this job site table saw.

Some YouTube videos out there with users rigging up router stands, in/Out feed tables. Best selling point was being able to rune dado stack blades. It does the job for little investment.

I'd suggest a mitre saw for a deck, especially if you don't have much experience as you'll get straighter cuts. Fyi I bought this saw back when it was $199 and it's been great. I find the fence doesn't always lock in square so be mindful of that and a new blade is a great upgrade.

There are tricks to getting the fence square. Once you understand how to do it, it's quick and accurate. There are lots of explanations online.

I'm always afraid the people on kijiji are going to sell tools that are changed from the original, and so when I buy a circular saw, there is a chance the blade might fly off the tool and slice my arm off :/

I'd go with a mitre saw(chop saw) for deck construction. Though a circular saw could get the job done as well. Actually, come think of it, I'd use both! Both are good investments for the diy'er.

For deck work I would suggest just getting on craigslist and picking up a chop saw for $50 or less. Sell it when your done or keep it. I just sold my old one for $20... it worked fine I just happened to have upgraded and didn't need it anymore. A basic 10", non sliding chop saw (aka miter saw) will crosscut a 2x6 in one go. A 2x8 you'll have to flip over to complete the cut but no big deal. For a one-time project like a deck (which has SOOO much repetitive cross cutting) this is the best tool for the job. And to be honest, while larger fancier saws have nice abilities, a small 10" saw is much less onerous to get out and set up.

Been using the Kobalt saw that's on sale this year (picked it up in the fall). Been good so far. I guess I should look into the 'tricks' mentioned to square up the fence quickly.

If anyone has recommendations for dado blades for this saw, kindly link please [Lowe's] Kobalt KT1015 10-in 15 Amp Table Saw with Folding Stand - RedFlagDeals.com Forums (8)
